Professor Suresh Gaikwad possesses a M.Sc. in Zoology from Shivaji University, Kolhapur and is presently a Professor in Zoology at Bharati Vidyapeeth, Science College, Sangli. He is an Honorary Wildlife Warden associated with the Govt. of Maharashtra. He has been an active member of many prestigious wildlife and environment related organisations such as - River Valley Expedition and Research Society of India, Mumbai Natural History Society, Mumbai Wildlife Fund of India, Western Ghats Conservation Movement, Chandoli Sanctuary Development Plan Committee and Sagareshwar Sanctuary Development Plan Committee. He studied various plants and birds around Mayani lake and submitted a proposal for a Bird Sanctuary there.
