A gynaecologist by profession, Dr. Sanjeev Kulkarni bought 19 acres of waste land in Western Ghats and began planting indigenous trees on it. Since underground water depleted drastically, he dug hundreds of pits across slopes to harvest rainwater and planted trees of ecological importance. Now, the entire land has become a lush green forest. The underground water levels have increased. Hundreds of birds, butterflies and reptiles are flourishing here. He grows chemical and pesticide free indigenous vegetables and fruits, and also runs an eco-friendly school.
