Sanjay Gubbi has been interested in nature and wildlife conservation since his high school days. He got involved in local conservation initiatives in his hometown Tumkur and later pursued wildlife conservation as a professional career. His interests lie in conservation science, policies and outreach aspects of conservation. His research interests are in better understanding human-wildlife interactions. He is one of the few in the country with a scientific background and a strong understanding of the socio-economic and political aspects of wildlife conservation. He focuses on working with a wide cross-section of people including policy makers, media persons and social leaders on the need for wildlife conservation, focusing mainly on tiger and elephant conservation in the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
