River Valley Expedition & Research Society of India

Vasundhara Mitra

Nature lovers from Sangli district formed this institute in 1975 with the aim of inculcating love for nature in youth and make them fight for conservation of nature. Initially, rock climbing and trekking were taken up, and these activities were praised by none other than Sir Edmund Hillary. The ‘Everest-Hero’ became the mentor of the society and directed its members towards more positive and concrete activities through the study of related cultural, social and scientific issues; and by not limiting them to adventure and wandering. After this boost, many programs were conducted under the able guidance of Hon. Baba Amte.
