It was founded by Late Prof. Prakash Gole in 1982. It started two projects Study of Mula-Mutha eco system and management of river banks, Study of Ambi river’s catchment area eco system. Ecological society has done survey of Bhimashankar Sanctuary and total costal area of Konkan and highlighted rich biodiversity areas and importance of their conservation. It started a one year research programme-‘Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Development’. Dr. Swati Gole is founder member and current chairman of Ecological Society. Three new projects were initiated under her leadership.
