Dr Khadar Vali, a food and nutrition specialist is known as the ‘Millet Man of India’ for his tireless work in promoting the cultivation and consumption of millets in India. Born in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, he completed his post-graduation at the Regional Institute of Education in Mysuru, his doctorate at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and his post-doctorate from the U.S. Disturbed by the rising incidences of lifestyle diseases among India’s young population, he left a well-paying job in the US and returned to India to promote a healthy lifestyle among Indians. In 2023, the Government of India awarded him the Padmashree, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in appreciation of his commitment to encouraging wholesome eating habits and choices to protect biodiversity.
