With an M.A. and a B. Ed., Mr. B.S. Kulkarni, Founder of Maharashtra Education Society’s High School, Solapur, has been a teacher for over 40 years. He has been involved in social work and has made a grand effort to get the Solapur Kambar Lake (Sambhaji Lake) area designated as a bird sanctuary. He sought out the Maldhok (the great Indian Bustard) in 1971 and succeeded in getting a sanctuary sanctioned for it. He was the Convener and President of the Welcome Committee for the Maharashtra Pakshimitra Sammelan (1984). As a Secretary of the City and District Youth Congress, he influenced the youth to work for the betterment of society. He organised private primary schools for children. In 1955, he founded the Astrology Study Circle and organised an All India Astrologers’ Gathering in 1984 under the Presidency of Dr. B. V. Raman. He has written many articles and presented lectures on the life of birds. He has also delivered lectures at the Paris Natural History Society on the great Indian Bustard. He read ‘Malawarche Pakshi’ for All India Radio, Pune station for 1 year. He served as the President of the Maharashtra State Chapter of Bharat Scout and Guide Institute (Mumbai) from 1983-1996.
