The Kalam Youth Centre (KYC) Start-up Studio, an initiative by Dr. Kalam Innovative School, Amreli, founded by Jay Kathrotiya, is transforming how students learn, innovate and contribute to society. With the vision of empowering financially disadvantaged students, the Start-up Studio equips them with technical, entrepreneurial and creative skills to help them earn while they learn. Students aged 13–16 are trained in digital fabrication, laser cutting, sublimation printing and product design. They create eco-friendly products such as millet-based items, engraved wooden crafts, reusable home décor and biodegradable merchandise. Each product proudly carries the label ‘Made in Amreli, Made by Students’. Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Start-up Studio fosters sustainability and science awareness. Students actively participate in events like the Millet Expo, promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits, while also developing business acumen. In just six months, students have earned ₹8 lakh in sales and gained recognition at major platforms like the Satvik Food Festival and IIM Ahmedabad International Conference. The program also won the GTU Ventures Sankul Award for entrepreneurship. The KYC start-up Studio offers real-world business experience while enabling students to support their families and reinvest in their education. Through hands-on training and student-led initiatives, the program nurtures self-reliance and creativity, making these students future-ready innovators who contribute to local economic growth and sustainability.
