Mr. P.K. Ghanekar is known for dedicating his entire life to environmental issues. As a student of botany, he realised that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had accorded special attention to the environment and vegetation, in his efforts to transform the society and culture, during his time. Mr Ghanekar did graduated from M.E.S College and University of Pune. His mentor, Prof. Hema Sane had told him that the study of botany could not solely be done in a classroom; one had to do it in the company of nature. He followed his mentor’s advice throughout his life, despite age catching up. Mr Ghanekar served as the head of the Botany Department in Abasaheb Garware College for 38 years and has travelled extensively throughout his teaching career.
